Cherry winks

Ingredients/Components

• sugar - 1 c
• eggs - 2 item
• vanilla - 2 tsp
• chopped pecans - 1 c
• milk - 2 Tbsp
• salt - 1/2 tsp
• flour
• soda - 1/2 tsp
• chopped dates - 1 c
• baking powder - 1 tsp
• shortening - 3/4 c
• corn flakes, crushed
• chopped candied cherries - 1/3 c
• extra cherries for decoration - 1 item

How to make cherry winks:

Sift dry ingredients together. Combine shortening and sugar; cream well. Add eggs, milk and vanilla. Blend in dry ingredients; mix well. Add pecans, dates and cherries. Shape into balls, roll each ball of dough in corn flakes. Place on greased baking sheet. Top each cookie with 1/3 candied cherry. Bake in moderate 350° oven 10 to 12 minutes.
