Cherry winks

Ingredients/Components

• sugar - 1 c
• eggs - 2 item
• milk - 2 Tbsp
• vanilla extract - 1 tsp
• salt - 1/2 tsp
• chopped dates - 1 c
• baking powder - 1 tsp
• baking soda - 1/2 tsp
• vegetable shortening - 3/4 c
• sifted flour
• crushed corn flakes
• chopped walnuts or pecans - 1 c
• maraschino cherries, quartered

How to make cherry winks:

Sift all dry ingredients. Place all ingredients except cherries and corn flakes into mixing bowl and mix thoroughly. Drop by teaspoonfuls into crushed corn flakes and roll into balls. Place on greased cookie sheet and press cherry into center. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes (time varies with different ranges). Makes 5 dozen.
