Caramel sauce
Ingredients/Components
- butter or margarine - 1/3 c
- firmly packed brown sugar - 2 c
- salt - 1/8 tsp
- half and half, divided - 1 c
- cornstarch - 2 tsp
- vanilla extract - 2 tsp
How to make caramel sauce:
Combine butter, brown sugar, salt and 3/4 cup half and half in a heavy saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves. Do not boil. Combine cornstarch and remaining 1/4 cup half and half. Gradually stir into brown sugar mixture. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens. Stir in vanilla.
