Caramel pie
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- vanilla - 2 tsp
- milk - 4 c
- salt - 1/8 tsp
- flour - 4 Tbsp
- butter - 4 Tbsp
- eggs, separated - 6 item
- water - 1/4 c
How to make caramel pie:
Caramelize 1/2 cup sugar in skillet on medium heat; when brown add water. Cook until all hardened particles are melted; set aside.Mix in double boiler, 2 cups sugar, flour, milk, butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Cook until mixture begins to thicken, about 5 minutes. Add small amount of mixture to beaten egg yolks. Add egg yolks to mixture in double boiler. Cook until thick. Cool.
Pour into two 9-inch baked pastry shells. Beat egg whites until holds shape well. Add remaining sugar in small amounts while continuing to beat. Add salt and remaining vanilla. Bake at 250° for 15 minutes. Yields 2 pies.
