Caramel oatmeal chewies
Ingredients/Components
- pkg - 6 oz
- packed brown sugar - 3/4 c
- chopped nuts - 1 c
- flour
- water - 1/2 c
- soda - 1/2 tsp
- margarine, melted - 3/4 c
- salt optional - 1/4 tsp
- oatmeal quick or old-fashioned
- bag vanilla caramels - 14 oz
How to make caramel oatmeal chewies:
Combine oats, flour, sugar, soda and salt. Add margarine; mix until crumbly. Reserve 1 cup mixture for topping. Press rest into greased 9 x 13-inch pan. Bake 10 minutes at 350°. Remove from oven.Melt caramels in water over low heat, stirring until mixture is smooth. Spread nuts and chips over baked base. Drizzle caramel mixture over all to within 1/4 inch of edge. Sprinkle top with reserved crumbs. Bake 15 to 18 minutes or until light brown. Cool completely. Chill until chocolate is set. Cut into bars.
