Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- eggs - 4 item
- vanilla - 3/4 tsp
- salt
- evaporated milk - 1/2 c
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- plain flour - 3 c
- butter flavoring - 1 tsp
- plus 2 Tbsp - 3/4 c
- solid shortening - 1 c
- box light brown sugar - 1 item
- Filling:1 1/2 sticks butter
How to make caramel cake:
Filling:1 1/2 sticks butter1 box light brown sugar1/2 c. evaporated milk Cream sugar and shortening. Add flour alternately with the salt and baking powder, which have been sifted together. Add eggs alternately with flour and milk. Bake at 350° in four layers in 9-inch pans until done.Filling: Combine in a saucepan and stir until well dissolved. Cook over medium heat until soft ball stage. Add 1 teaspoon butter flavoring and 3/4 teaspoon vanilla. Stir often to keep from burning.
