Ingredients/Components

  • medium sweet potatoes - 8 item
  • packed brown sugar - 1 c
  • chopped walnuts - 1/2 c
  • raisins - 1/2 c
  • ground cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • water - 1/2 c
  • light corn syrup - 2 Tbsp
  • miniature marshmallows

How to make candied yams:

Cook sweet potatoes, covered, in enough lightly salted boiling water to cover for 35 to 40 minutes or until tender. Drain; cool slightly. Peel and cut into 1/2-inch slices. Halve slices.

Place potato slices in a 12 x 7 1/2 x 1-inch baking dish. Combine brown sugar, walnuts, raisins and cinnamon; sprinkle over potatoes. Combine water and corn syrup. Pour over sweet potatoes. Bake, covered, in a 350° oven for 15 minutes. Uncover; top with miniature marshmallows. Bake 10 minutes more or until marshmallows are browned and mixture is heated through. Makes 12 to 14 servings.
