How to make brown sugar pound cake:
Have all ingredients at room temperature. Cream butter and Crisco; add sugars. Beat for 5 minutes on medium speed of mixer after the sugars are mixed with butter. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Do not overbeat. Beat only until yolks cannot be seen or disappear. Add flour and milk alternately, beginning and ending with flour. Stir in vanilla and nuts. Pour into a greased and floured tube pan. Start in a cold oven. After oven light goes off, bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Set oven at 325°. When you take cake out, let it sit in pan for about 5 minutes on cake rack before removing to plate. When I make this cake for special occasions, I add the nuts and use the following icing. It is oh so good, but loaded with calories.Icing:1 stick butter or margarine1/4 tsp. salt2 c. confectioners sugar1 c. brown sugar1/4 c. milk Melt butter in saucepan over low heat. Add brown sugar and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil hard for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in milk. Return to heat and bring to full boil. Remove from heat; cool to lukewarm. Stir in confectioners sugar. If icing is too thick to spread on cake, add a little milk.
