Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/3 c
- vinegar - 3 c
- cloves garlic - 3 item
- celery seed
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- turmeric
- green peppers, chopped - 2 item
- sliced cucumbers medium size - 4 qt
- sugar or 3 c - 5 c
- white onions, sliced medium size - 6 item
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Do not peel. Slice cucumbers thin. Add sliced onions, peppers and whole garlic. Add salt and cover with cracked ice. Mix thoroughly. Let stand 3 hours. Drain thoroughly and combine remaining ingredients. Pour over cucumber mixture. Heat to boiling. Seal in hot, sterilized jars. Makes 4 pints.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
