Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- vinegar - 5 c
- cloves - 1/2 tsp
- coarse salt - 1/2 c
- celery seed - 2 Tbsp
- green pepper, chopped - 1 item
- mustard seed - 2 tsp
- turmeric - 1/2 tsp
- red pepper, chopped - 1 item
- sliced cucumbers - 1 gal
- small onions, sliced - 8 item
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Combine cucumbers, onions, peppers and salt in large container. Cover with ice cubes and let sit for 3 hours or more; drain well. Cook together sugar, vinegar, celery seed, turmeric and cloves until boiling. Pour over cucumber mix. Bring all to a full boil at least 1 minute.
