Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 7 c
- salt - 1 c
- celery seed - 1/4 tsp
- white vinegar - 2 qt
- turmeric - 1 tsp
- large onions, sliced thin - 8 item
- large sweet peppers, chopped or sliced - 5 item
- white mustard - 3 tsp
- cucumber slices - 8 qt
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Combine cucumbers, onions and peppers. Add salt and mix well. Let stand 24 hours, then drain. In a large kettle, combine vinegar, sugar, turmeric, mustard and celery seed. Bring to a boil. Add cucumber mixture and bring to a boil again. Spoon pickles into hot sterilized jars and seal.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
