Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- salt - 1/3 c
- cider vinegar - 3 c
- cloves garlic - 3 item
- celery seed
- medium cucumbers - 4 qt
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- green peppers - 2 item
- large white onions - 3 item
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Slice cucumbers and onions. Chop peppers. Add garlic and salt. Cover with cracked ice. Let stand 3 hours. Drain well.Combine sugar, vinegar, celery seed and mustard seed. Pour over cucumber mixture. Heat to boiling point. Seal in hot sterilized jars. Makes 8 pints.
