Ingredients/Components
- salt - 2 tsp
- brown sugar - 2 c
- molasses - 1 c
- dry mustard - 2 tsp
- Worcestershire sauce - 2 tsp
- can tomato paste - 1 oz
- cloves garlic - 4 item
- sprigs parsley - 4 item
- bay leaves - 2 item
- large onions - 2 item
- or 5 c - 2 lb
- whole cloves, pressed into 1 whole onion - 10 item
- salt pork and 1/2 lb - 1/2 lb
How to make baked beans:
Rinse beans well; add 1 teaspoon salt and cover with fresh water. Add the onion with cloves, tomato paste and parsley; bring to boil. Turn low and simmer covered 45 minutes. Chop salt pork, bacon, garlic and onion very fine; set aside. Mix molasses, mustard, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce together well. Add bacon, garlic and onions. Mix everything together.After beans have simmered 45 minutes, drain beans and save juice. Add molasses and bacon mixture to the juice. Mix well. Add beans; bake on low heat several hours.
