Baked beans
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- brown sugar - 3/4 c
- water - 8 c
- dark molasses - 3/4 c
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- prepared mustard - 2 tsp
- onion, finely chopped - 1/2 c
- bell pepper, finely chopped - 1/2 c
- navy beans, rinsed and drained - 1 lb
- catsup Heinz - 1/2 c
- to 3 slices lean bacon, chopped - 2 item
- celery seed, ground - 1/2 tsp
How to make baked beans:
In a Dutch oven, add water and beans. Bring to a boil and simmer 2 hours. Drain, reserving liquid. Combine salt, brown sugar, mustard, molasses, catsup, pepper and ground celery. Mix well and add to beans. Add rest of the ingredients and bake at 300° for 2 to 3 hours. Add more reserved liquid, if needed.Note: You can just add 2 celery stalks instead of ground celery seed and remove them before serving.
