How to make apple dumplings:
Filling And Syrup:4 apples, peeled and chunked cinnamon-sugar (2 c.+)1/2 c. margarine4 c. water For Pastry: Combine flour and salt; cut in shortening. Stir in water. Roll out 1/8-inch thick. Cut in 4-inch squares. Fill with apple chunks. Sprinkle about 1 teaspoon sugar over apples, then some cinnamon. Bring up corners of pastry and seal the filling in. Place in baking dish.Syrup: Combine 2 cups sugar, margarine and 4 cups water in saucepan. Bring to a boil. Pour 1/2 over dumplings. Bake at 450° for 15 minutes. Pour other 1/2 over dumplings. Reduce temperature to 325° and bake 45 minutes more or until a golden brown.
Note: A little red food coloring makes them prettier.
