Apple dumplings
Ingredients/Components
- tsp salt - 1/4 item
- tsp baking powder - 2 item
- cup milk - 3/4 item
- Tbsp flour - 3 item
- cups flour - 2 item
- cups boiling water - 2-1/2 item
- Tbsp butter - 6 item
- Tbsp sugar - 2 item
- cup shortening - 1/2 item
- medium apples, pared and cored - 6 item
- Cut in shortening until coarse crumbs
How to make apple dumplings:
Sift together dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until coarse crumbs. Add milk, stir until flour is moist. On lightly floured surface roll into 18 x 12-inch rectangle. Place apples on dough. Sprinkle apples with cinnamon and nutmeg. Roll and cut as for cinnamon rolls. Place one inch apart on ungreased baking pan. Pour syrup over dumplings. Bake at 375 for one hour or until apples are done. Serve warm with cream or ice cream.Syrup:2 cups sugar6 Tbsp butter2-1/2 cups boiling water3 Tbsp flour Cook until thickened.
