Apple dumplings
Ingredients/Components
- cinnamon - 1/4 tsp
- milk - 1/4 c
- flour
- butter - 1/4 c
- water - 1 c
- molasses - 1/4 c
- raisins - 1/3 c
- walnuts, chopped - 1/3 c
- honey - 1/4 c
- juice of 1/2 lemon
- apples - 4 item
- grated rind of 1/3 lemon
How to make apple dumplings:
Cut the tops off the apples; remove the cores and seed, being careful not to puncture the skins. Fill each hollowed apple with 1/4 of the walnuts, raisins, molasses and cinnamon. Mix the flour and butter together and add just enough milk for the dough to form a ball. Divide the dough into 4 and roll each piece into a circle about 7 inches in diameter. Place an apple in center of each and gather up the dough, pressing the edges together at the top of the apple. Moisten edges with milk for good seal.Arrange dumplings in baking dish, not touching. Bake at 375° for 15 minutes. In saucepan, combine honey, lemon juice and rind and water; simmer 5 minutes. Pour hot syrup around dumplings and continue baking another 40 minutes.
