Strawberry squares
Ingredients/Components
- granulated sugar - 1/2 c
- brown sugar - 1/4 c
- egg whites - 2 item
- chopped walnuts - 1/2 c
- whipped cream - 1/4 c
- lemon juice - 2 Tbsp
- butter, melted - 1/2 c
- sifted all-purpose flour - 1 c
- fresh Highland strawberries, sliced reserve 3 to 4 whole strawberries for decoration - 1 pt
How to make strawberry squares:
Mix flour, brown sugar, walnuts and butter. Sprinkle mixture evenly in shallow baking pan. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to make crumbs. Sprinkle 2/3 of crumbs in 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan; reserve remaining crumbs. Beat egg whites until frothy; gradually add sugar and lemon juice, beating to stiff peaks. Add Highland strawberries; continue beating until peaks reform. Fold strawberry mixture into whipped cream. Spoon over crumbs in prepared baking pan; top with reserved crumbs.
