Apple dumplings
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- cinnamon - 1/4 tsp
- milk - 1/2 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- butter - 1/4 c
- water - 2 c
- nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- shortening - 3/4 c
- apples - 6 item
How to make apple dumplings:
Make syrup of sugar, water, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add butter and heat until butter melts. Pare and core apples and cut in halves.Sift flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in shortening. Add milk all at once and stir until dough follows fork around bowl. Roll 1/4-inch thick on floured surface. Cut into 6-inch squares. Arrange apple on each. Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Dot with butter. Fold corners together. Pinch edges together. Place in greased baking pan. Pour over warm syrup and bake at 375° for 30 to 40 minutes.
Note: I usually make 1 1/2 recipes of dough.
