White taffy
Ingredients/Components
- granulated sugar - 1 c
- butter - 1 item
- water - 1/3 c
- baking soda - 1/4 tsp
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- light corn syrup - 1/4 c
How to make white taffy:
Combine sugar, 1/3 cup water and corn syrup in a heavy saucepan. Stir over low heat until sugar dissolves. Cook without stirring to light crack stage (270°). Remove from heat; add vinegar and baking soda and mix thoroughly. Pour on buttered platter to cool. Butter hands, then pull taffy until it is snow white and porous. When candy is too hard to pull, twist into a rope of desired thickness. Cool and break into 1 1/2-inch pieces. Yield: 2 dozen pieces of candy.Recipe categories: Low protein, Lunch/snacks, Snacks.
