Western beans
Ingredients/Components
- water
- garlic powder - 1 tsp
- chili powder - 3/4 tsp
- bay leaf - 1 item
- ketchup - 2 Tbsp
- ground cumin - 1/2 tsp
- large onion, chopped - 1 item
- dry lentils - 1/3 c
- can kidney beans, drained - 1 oz
- can pinto beans, drained - 1 oz
- dried red pepper - 1/4 tsp
- can whole tomatoes with liquid, chopped - 1 oz
- bacon strips, diced I use spiced peppered - 4 item
How to make western beans:
Lightly fry bacon in 3-quart saucepan. Add onion. Cook until transparent. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cook over medium heat for 45 minutes or until lentils are tender, stirring once or twice. Remove bay leaf. Yields about 8 to 10 servings.Recipe categories: Weeknight, Side dish, Beans.
