  • cloves garlic, minced - 4 item
  • bay leaf - 1 item
  • carrots - 4 item
  • stalks celery - 2 item
  • onion, chopped - 1 item
  • thyme - 1/4 tsp
  • split peas - 1 lb

How to make vegetarian split pea soup:

Put all ingredients in a soup kettle. Simmer, covered, for 3 to 4 hours. Or cook in slow cooker 8 to 10 hours on low, 3 to 4 hours on high. Before serving, put the soup through a food processor or blender. Add milk to cool when serving. When serving, add cooked barley or grated cheese for a complete protein. Serves 10 to 12.
