  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 2 Tbsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • cup water - 1 item
  • cup milk - 1/4 item
  • cup buttermilk - 1/2 item
  • cup butter or margarine - 1/2 item
  • cups all purpose flour - 2 item
  • cups granulated sugar - 2 item
  • cup shortening - 1/2 item
  • cup unsweetened cocoa - 1/4 item
  • Frosting:1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cups unsifted powdered sugar - 3 item

How to make texas brownies:

Frosting:1/2 cup butter or margarine2 Tbsp. cocoa1/4 cup milk3 1/2 cups unsifted powdered sugar1 tsp. vanilla In a large mixing bowl combine the flour and sugar. In heavy saucepan combine butter, shortening, water and cocoa. Stir and heat to boiling. Pour boiling mixture over the flour and sugar in bowl. Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla. Mix well, using a wooden spoon or high speed electric mixer. Pour into well buttered 17 x 11 inch jellyroll pan. Bake at 400° for 20 minutes or until brownies test done in center. While brownies bake, prepare frosting. In saucepan combine butter, cocoa and milk. Heat to boiling, stirring. Mix in powdered sugar and vanilla until frosting is smooth. Pour warm frosting over brownies as soon as you take them out of the oven. Cool. Cut into 48 bars.
