Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 1/4 c
  • flour - 2 c
  • cocoa - 2 Tbsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • powdered sugar - 3-1/2 c
  • 2 sticks margarine - 1 c
  • 1 stick butter
  • strong brewed coffee - 1 c
  • dark, unsweetened cocoa - 1/4 c
  • buttermilk* - 1/2 c

How to make texas brownies:

Frosting:1/2 c. (1 stick) butter2 Tbsp. cocoa1/4 c. milk3-1/2 c. powdered sugar1 tsp. vanilla Lightly grease a 11 x 17-1/2 inch baking pan (jelly roll size).

In large mixing bowl, combine the flour and sugar. In heavy saucepan, combine butter coffee, and cocoa. Stir and heat to boiling. Pour boiling mixture over the flour and sugar in the bowl. Add the buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla. Mix well using wooden spoon. Pour into jelly roll pan. Bake at 375 for 15-20 minutes or until brownies test done in the center.

FROSTING: While brownies bake, prepare the frosting. In a saucepan, combine the butter, cocoa, and milk. Heat to boiling and remove from heat. Mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.

Pour warm frosting over brownies as soon as you take them out of the oven. Cool.

Makes approximately 48.

*May substitute buttermilk with sour milk, made by adding 2 tsp. of vinegar or lemon juice to milk.
