  • cup milk - 1/4 item
  • cup butter or margarine - 1/2 item

  • cup packed brown sugar - 1 item

  • teaspoon nutmeg - 1/2 item
  • teaspoon ground cinnamon - 1 item
  • teaspoon allspice - 1/2 item
  • cup raisins optional - 1/2 item
  • 1/2 cups applesauce - 1 item
  • 1/2 teaspoons baking soda - 1 item
  • cup chopped walnuts or pecans optional - 1/2 item
  • Frosting:1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 to 2 cups powdered sugar - 1 item
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

How to make applesauce cake with caramel frosting:

Frosting:1/2 cup butter or margarine1 cup packed brown sugar1/4 cup milk1 1/2 to 2 cups powdered sugar 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9 x 13 pan with non stick cooking spray.

2. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, cream the butter or margarine. Gradually add the sugar, creaming until light.

3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Blend in the water.

4. In a medium-sized bowl, sift together the flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.

5. Add the dry ingredients alternately to the creamed mixture with the applesauce.

6. Stir in raisins and nuts. Turn batter into prepared pan and bake for 55 to 60 minutes or until done. Cool in pan.Frosting: 1. Heat the butter or margarine in a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat until melted.

2. Stir in brown sugar. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir over low heat 2 minutes.

3. Stir in milk. Heat to boiling; remove from heat. Cool to lukewarm.

4. Gradually stir in powdered sugar. Place pan of frosting in a bowl of cold water; beat until smooth and of spreading consistency. If frosting becomes too stiff, stir in additional milk, one teaspoon at a time.
