Tamale pie
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 Tbsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- butter - 1 Tbsp
- cold water - 2 c
- garlic powder - 1 tsp
- chopped onion - 1 c
- chili powder - 2 3
- can whole kernel corn, drained - 1 oz
- dash of pepper - 1 item
- ground beef - 1 lb
- shredded Cheddar cheese - 8 oz
- cans tomato sauce - 2 oz
- yellow cornmeal - 3/4 c
- green peppers - 1 c
- pitted ripe olives, chopped - 1/2 c
How to make tamale pie:
Cook beef, onion and peppers in large skillet until meat is browned and vegetables are tender. Stir in tomato sauce, corn, olives, garlic, sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, chili powder and pepper. Simmer 20 to 25 minutes or until thick. Pour into greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with 6 ounces of Cheddar cheese.Stir cornmeal and 1/2 teaspoon salt into cold water. Cook, stirring constantly until thick. Add butter and mix well. Spoon over hot meat and cheese mixture. Top with remaining 2 ounces Cheddar cheese. Bake for 40 minutes in 375° oven. Makes 6 servings.
