Sweet pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 9 c
- water - 2 gal
- vinegar - 2 qt
- celery seed - 1 tsp
- whole cloves - 1 tsp
- non-iodized salt - 1 Tbsp
- pickle lime - 2 c
- mixed spices whole - 1 tsp
How to make sweet pickles:
Mix 2 cups pickle lime and 2 gallons water in a ceramic cooker. Slice about 5 to 6 pounds cucumbers. Soak in lime overnight or 12 hours. Wash well.Drain. Mix other 6 ingredients. Add to cucumbers. Let soak overnight. Bring to a boil about 1/2 hour. Warm flats and jars. Fill to within 1 inch of top. Seal and cover with cloth until sealed. Makes 6 quarts.
