Ingredients/Components
- cucumbers - 7 lb
- sugar - 7 c
- dark vinegar - 5 c
- salt - 1/2 c
- alum - 1/4 c
- pickling lime - 2 c
- water - 2 gal
- box pickling spice - 1/2 item
How to make sweet pickles:
Soak cucumbers for 24 hours in lime water. Drain and soak four hours in salt water. Drain and rinse. Soak 2 hours in clear water. Cover with alum and water and bring to a rapid boil. Drain and rinse. Place in vinegar, sugar and spices. Cook 30 minutes. Pack in jars and pour juice over pickles. Seal.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
