Sweet and sour chicken
Ingredients/Components
- brown sugar - 4 Tbsp
- cornstarch - 3 Tbsp
- water - 1/4 c
- vinegar - 1/4 c
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- soy sauce - 2 Tbsp
- can chicken broth - 1 item
- can pineapple chunks - 1 item
- large clove garlic, minced - 1 item
- chicken parts - 2 lb
- medium green pepper, cut in 1-inch squares - 1 item
How to make sweet and sour chicken:
Drain pineapple chunks, reserving syrup. In skillet, brown chicken pieces in shortening; pour off fat. Add reserved syrup, broth, vinegar, sugar, soy sauce and garlic. Cover and cook over low heat 40 minutes. Add green pepper and pineapple chunks, and cook 5 minutes more, or until done. Stir occasionally. Combine cornstarch and water; gradually stir into sauce.
