  • sugar
  • vanilla
  • pkg - 1 oz
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • egg whites
  • whipping cream - 1/2 pt
  • cream of tartar
  • sifted confectioners sugar
  • cake flour - 1 c
  • almond flavoring - 1/2 tsp

How to make strawberry delight:

Sift flour and confectioners sugar together 3 times. Beat together egg whites, cream of tartar and salt with a wire whisk or electric mixer until foamy. Add 1 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time; beat until stiff peaks form. Fold in 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla and almond flavorings. Sift flour mixture gradually over the top; fold in gently, just until flour mixture disappears.

Push batter into ungreased 10-inch tube pan; cut through batter gently with a knife. Bake at 375° until top springs back when lightly touched. Invert on funnel until cold.

Whip the whipping cream with remaining vanilla and sugar until stiff peaks form. Frost sides and slightly over top edge of the cake with whipping cream. Cover remaining top with whipping cream. Cover top with strawberries. Serve or refrigerate for 1 to 3 hours. Yields 10 servings.
