St. james coffee cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- buttermilk - 2 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- shortening - 3/4 c
- raisins - 1 c
- flour, sifted - 3 c
- cloves - 1/2 tsp
- walnuts, chopped - 1 c
How to make st. james coffee cake:
Sift flour, sugar and spices together. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse corn meal. Reserve 1/2 cup of this mixture. Combine buttermilk and soda. Add to dry mixture in halves, beating thoroughly after each addition. Stir in raisins and nuts. Spread in greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Sprinkle reserved crumbs over top.
