Shoo-fly pie
Ingredients/Components
- cinnamon - 1/4 tsp
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- flour - 1 c
- brown sugar - 2/3 c
- butter - 3 Tbsp
- nutmeg - 1/8 tsp
- soda - 1/2 tsp
- boiling water - 1 c
- ginger - 1/8 tsp
- cloves - 1/8 tsp
- dark molasses - 1/3 c
- egg yolk - 1 item
How to make shoo-fly pie:
Combine flour, salt and spices. Add sugar. Blend in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine molasses and egg yolk in bowl. Add soda and boiling water, blend well. Alternate filling uncooked pie shell beginning and ending with crumbs.Bake at 450° for 10 minutes then 350° for 15 to 20 minutes. Pie will appear cake like when done.
