Ingredients/Components
- butter, softened - 1/4 lb
- sugar - 2 c
- eggs - 4 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- flour - 3 c
- soda - 1/2 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking powder - 1/2 tsp
- pinch of salt - 1 item
- shortening - 1/2 c
- rum - 3 oz
- rum flavoring - 1 tsp
- Glaze:2 sticks butter
How to make rum cake:
Glaze:2 sticks butter1 c. sugar3 oz. rum Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Combine flour, soda, baking powder and salt. Alternate, adding flour mixture and buttermilk to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with flour. Add vanilla and rum flavoring. Bake at 325° for 1 hour in a greased and floured Bundt pan, tube pan or 2 loaf pans.For Glaze: Melt butter with sugar over low heat; stir to melt sugar. Add rum. Pour over hot cake and leave in pan 2 hours.
This cake can be made ahead and frozen.
