Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 Tbsp
- milk - 1/4 pt
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- self-rising flour - 2 c
- margarine
- currants or golden raisins - 2 Tbsp
How to make rich scones:
Combine the egg and milk; keep back enough to brush tops.Mix the flour, salt and margarine in a bowl; rub in margarine. Mix in sugar and fruit. Add egg and milk mixture to flour to make a soft dough. Turn onto floured surface and roll out to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into rounds with 2 1/2-inch cutter. Place on greased baking tray; brush tops with beaten egg mixture. Bake in hot oven (425° to 450°) for about 10 minutes.
