Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • stick margarine - 1 item
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • vinegar - 1 tsp
  • self-rising flour
  • red food coloring - 2 oz
  • box powdered sugar - 1 lb
  • Wesson oil - 1 c
  • Add eggs
  • crushed pecans if desired - 1 c

How to make red velvet cake:

Mix oil and sugar. Add eggs. Mix vinegar with buttermilk and add dry ingredients. Alternate with milk. Add vanilla and food coloring. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Makes 3 layers.Icing:8 oz. cream cheese1 lb. box powdered sugar1 c. crushed pecans (if desired)1 stick margarine1 tsp. vanilla Have cheese and margarine at room temperature. Mix together and spread on cooled cake.
