Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- flour - 2 c
- cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- dash of salt - 1 item
- Crisco - 1/2 c
- red food coloring - 2 oz
- Add eggs
- each vinegar and soda - 1 tsp
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream Crisco and sugar. Add eggs. Mix soda and vinegar and set aside. Mix cocoa, flour and dash of salt. Mix alternately to creamed mixture with buttermilk. Add last by hand, vinegar and soda mixture. Bake at 350° in 2 greased and floured layer pans for 30 minutes.Red Velvet Cake Icing:1 c. sugar1 c. Crisco1/4 c. flour1 c. milk dash of salt1 tsp. vanilla Cream sugar and Crisco; set aside. Mix flour, milk and dash of salt. Cool until it forms a real thick paste. Let slightly cool. Be sure to put lid on pan while mixture is cooling. Add to sugar mixture and beat until creamy, like whipped cream.
