Red cabbage
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- water
- vinegar - 1 c
- oleo - 1 Tbsp
- cloves - 2 item
- bay leaf - 1 item
- peppercorns - 6 item
- whole allspice - 2 item
- large apples - 2 item
- medium sweet onion - 1 item
- medium head red cabbage - 1 item
How to make red cabbage:
Wash and remove outer leaves of cabbage. Remove core and slice. Peel and slice onion. Peel and core apples. Toss together. Add rest of ingredients to mixture. Simmer in oleo 1 1/2 hours, covered. Thicken slightly with small amount of cornstarch by using some of the juice to mix with cornstarch. Make paste and add gradually to cabbage while stirring.
