  • sugar - 3/4 c
  • milk - 1 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • lemon extract - 1/2 tsp
  • sifted self-rising flour
  • coarsely ground or chopped raisins or nuts - 1/2 c

How to make raisin crisscross cookies:

Mix together first 3 ingredients. Stir in next 2 ingredients. Stir in last 2 ingredients. Roll into balls the size of a small walnut. Place balls, about 3 inches apart, on greased baking sheet. Flatten with a fork, dipped in flour, making a crisscross pattern. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in a moderate oven (350° to 375°), no more. Makes about 50 cookies.
