Ingredients/Components
- all-purpose flour - 2 Tbsp
- chopped onion - 1 Tbsp
- tsp salt - 1/2 item
- cup chopped celery - 1/4 item
- tsp Worcestershire sauce - 1/4 item
- to 3/4 pound boneless beef round steak, 3/4-inch thick - 1/2 item
- 8 ounce can 1 cup stewed tomatoes - 1 item
- cup chopped carrot - 1/4 item
- shredded shart process American cheese - 2 Tbsp
How to make oven swiss steak:
Cut meat into two portions. Mix flour and salt; pound into meat; set aside remaining flour. Brown meat in small amount of hot shortening. Place meat in small shallow baking dish. Blend remaining flour with drippings in skillet. Add remaining ingredients, except cheese, and cook, stirring constantly, till mixture boils. Pour over meat. Cover and bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 2 hours or till meat and vegetables are tender. Sprinkle cheese over meat. Return to oven for few minutes.
