Ingredients/Components

  • beef, cut into 1-inch cubes - 2 lb
  • flour - 1/3 c
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • oil - 1/3 c
  • can tomatoes - 1 oz
  • pkg - 1 oz
  • can mushrooms, drained - 1 oz
  • small whole onions - 10 item
  • hot mashed potatoes - 3 c
  • Velveeta pasteurized process cheese spread, cubed - 1/2 lb

How to make oven beef stew:

Coat meat with combined flour and seasonings. Brown in oil; drain. Combine meat, tomatoes, peas, mushrooms and onions; mix well. Pour into 2-quart casserole. Cover; bake at 325° for 1 hour and 45 minutes or until meat and onions are tender. Combine potatoes and process cheese spread; spoon around edge of casserole. Broil until process cheese spread begins to melt. Makes 6 to 8 servings.

May substitute a 16 ounce can small whole onions (drained) for fresh onions.
