Ingredients/Components

  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • eggs - 2 item
  • granulated sugar - 1/4 c
  • milk - 1/4 c
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • all-purpose flour
  • vegetable shortening - 3/4 c
  • brown sugar, firmly packed - 1 c
  • old-fashioned rolled oats - 3 c
  • chopped raisins if desired - 1/2 c

How to make old fashioned oatmeal cookies:

Cream the shortening with the sugars. Add eggs and beat well. Blend in cinnamon, baking soda and milk. Add oats, flour and raisins. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

To bake, turn dough onto lightly floured board. Knead a few times. Divide dough into fourths to make rolling easier. Roll into 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with 3-inch cutter. Transfer cookies to a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes.

Makes 24 cookies, each with 171 calories, 7 grams fat and 18 milligrams cholesterol.
