vanilla - 1 tsp
granulated sugar - 1/2 c
salt - 1 tsp
flour - 1 c
brown sugar - 1 c
water - 1/4 c
baking soda - 1/2 tsp
egg - 1 item
soft shortening - 3/4 c
uncooked oats - 3 c

How to make oatmeal cookies:

Beat first 6 ingredients until creamy. Add dry ingredients. Blend well. Stir in uncooked oats. Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.

For variety, add nuts, raisins and chocolate chips.

Use Quick or Old Fashioned oats.
