  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour
  • brown sugar - 1 c
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • coconut - 1 c
  • baking soda - 3/4 tsp
  • boiling water
  • nuts - 1/2 c
  • oatmeal - 1 c
  • butter, melted
  • white sugar - 1/2 c
  • cream or milk - 3 Tbsp

How to make oatmeal cake:

Broiled Icing:1/4 c. butter, melted3 Tbsp. cream or milk1/2 c. brown sugar1 c. coconut1/2 c. nuts Boil the water; add oatmeal. Pour together and let set 20 minutes. Cream brown sugar, white sugar and butter, then add vanilla and eggs. Add oatmeal mixture, salt, baking soda and flour; mix until well blended. Pour into an oblong 9 x 13-inch greased and floured pan. Bake in 350° oven for 30 to 40 minutes.

Broiled Icing: Combine ingredients. Mix together. Spread on warm cake. Broil until bubbly. Will burn easily, so must be watched.
