Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 3 c
  • salt
  • butter - 2 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/8 tsp
  • chopped onion - 1/4 c
  • chopped celery - 1/4 c
  • cans minced clams - 2 oz
  • thyme - 1/8 tsp
  • slices bacon, cut in 1/2-inch pieces - 3 item
  • diced, cooked potatoes

How to make new england clam chowder:

Drain clams; reserve 1 cup liquid. Fry bacon in skillet until almost crisp. Add onion and celery. Saute until tender; drain. Combine bacon mixture, potatoes, clam liquid, salt, pepper and thyme in large saucepan. Simmer 10 minutes. Add milk and clams. Heat thoroughly. Do not boil. Top each serving with 1 teaspoon butter. Makes 6 servings.
