Ingredients/Components

  • stick butter - 1/2 item
  • tubes refrigerator biscuits - 2 item
  • Place the Monkey Pot on a pie pan to catch any excess drip

How to make monkey bread:

Preheat oven to 375°. Place the Monkey Pot on a pie pan to catch any excess drip. Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Brush the interior of the mold well with the butter*. Open refrigerator biscuits and dip the biscuits individually in the butter and layer them into the pot, taking care to see that each layer alternates over the last. Bake for 15 minutes, then cover with foil and continue to bake for an additional 30 minutes or until done. Tap the top; it will sound hollow when done. Invert the mold onto a plate and serve piping hot.

*Important: To insure trouble-free molding, coat the interior of the mold with a pure-vegetable spray-on coating instead of butter.Sweet and Savory Variations: Cinnamon and Raisin Monkey Bread: Add 2 tablespoons brown sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon to the butter after it is melted. Before dipping the biscuits, press 1/2 cup raisins (4 to 5 per biscuit) onto the surface of each biscuit. For another variety, substitute currants or chopped nuts for the raisins.

Garlic Monkey Bread: Add the pressing of 3 cloves of garlic to the butter while it is melting. Dip the biscuits and finish according to the basic recipe. This is particularly good when it is served with small slices of Cheddar or Jack cheese as an appetizer or to accompany a hearty soup or pasta. For variety, substitute 2 tablespoons of an herb, such as dill or grated cheese, for the garlic.
