Molasses oatmeal bread
Ingredients/Components
- milk - 2/3 c
- salt
- flour - 7 c
- brown sugar - 2 Tbsp
- cold water - 2/3 c
- eggs, beaten - 3 item
- shortening - 6 Tbsp
- molasses - 1/2 c
- rolled oats - 1 c
- lukewarm water - 2 envelopes
How to make molasses oatmeal bread:
Scald the milk and pour over the oats. Add the salt and shortening; blend in the molasses and sugar. Add the beaten eggs, remaining water and mix well. Stir in part of the flour, and the yeast and then the remaining flour. Mix well and let rise 1 1/2 hours. Shape into two loaves and bake 5 minutes at 400°; lower oven to 350° and bake an additional 40 minutes.If rolls are preferred, bake at 400° for 25 minutes.
