Marinara sauce
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- olive oil - 1/4 c
- ground sage - 1/2 tsp
- freshly ground black pepper - 1 item
- each: dried basil and oregano - 1 tsp
- garlic cloves or instant - 2 item
- finely chopped onions or instant - 2 c
- Italian plum tomatoes 1 lb
- tomato puree one 15 oz - 2 c
- tomato paste one 12 oz
- water or meat stock or wine - 1/2 c
How to make marinara sauce:
Heat the oil in a large saucepan and add the garlic and onions. Cook, stirring until the onions are light brown. Add the tomatoes, tomato puree, tomato paste, water and seasonings. Simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Leftover sauce may be frozen.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
