Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • olive oil - 1/4 c
  • ground sage - 1/2 tsp
  • freshly ground black pepper - 1 item
  • each: dried basil and oregano - 1 tsp
  • garlic cloves or instant - 2 item
  • finely chopped onions or instant - 2 c
  • Italian plum tomatoes 1 lb
  • tomato puree one 15 oz - 2 c
  • tomato paste one 12 oz
  • water or meat stock or wine - 1/2 c

How to make marinara sauce:

Heat the oil in a large saucepan and add the garlic and onions. Cook, stirring until the onions are light brown. Add the tomatoes, tomato puree, tomato paste, water and seasonings. Simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Leftover sauce may be frozen.
