Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • eggs - 5 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • flour - 10 c
  • butter - 1/2 lb
  • Crisco - 1/3 c
  • box raisins - 1/2 item
  • cold butter - 1/3 c
  • dry yeast, dissolved in 1/2 c - 2 pkg
  • Add sugar and shortening

How to make kuchen:

Scald milk. Add sugar and shortening. Add eggs, yeast, flour and salt. Blend well. Let rise until double. Spoon into 4 greased bread pans. Brush with 1 beaten egg white, then add topping.Topping:1 1/2 c. flour1/3 c. cold butter1 tsp. vanilla1/3 c. Crisco3/4 c. sugar Rub together into crumbs; put on loaves. Bake at 350° until done.
