Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 4 c
  • baking powder - 2 Tbsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • warm water - 1 c
  • cooking oil for frying - 1 item
  • instant nonfat powdered dry milk - 1/4 c

How to make indian fry bread:

Stir together powdered milk, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in water. Turn on floured surface and knead to smooth ball.

Divide into 8 balls. Cover with towel and let stand 10 minutes on floured surface. Roll each ball to 6-inch circle. Fry one at a time in deep fat 400° until golden brown. Drain on paper and serve.
