  • sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1/2 c
  • water - 3/4 c
  • oil - 1 item
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • baking soda - 1/2 tsp
  • egg, beaten - 1 item
  • cornmeal
  • chopped onion - 1/2 c

How to make hush puppies:

Blend egg, milk, onion and water. Set aside. Combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Add egg mixture; stir to moisten. Drop batter into deep fat (heated to 375°) for 2 minutes. Turn once. Yields 24.
